Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born to Monica and Ronald Fenty on twentieth of February, 1988. This multifaceted artist from Barbados is a singer, accredited fashion designer as well as a model.

Early Life

Luck seemed to be with her as her demo went to Def Jam. Jay Z, renowned rapper as well as Def Jam president, invited her for an audition and she was soon signed up to Def Jam Recordings.

Rihanna’s rise to stardom

August, 2005 marked the release of Rihanna’s debut album, ‘Music of the Sun’. Two singles, ‘Pon de Replay’ and ‘If It’s Loving That You Want’ had a lot of success worldwide. In fact, ‘Pon de Replay’, written by Rogers and Sturken, was at number two on release in the US and within the top ten across countries. Though these two singles were well received by audiences worldwide, the album as such got a low rating of only two and a half stars out of five.

Within eight months after her first album release, Rihanna released her second album, ‘A Girl Like Me’. The lead song, ‘SOS’, was endorsed by Nike. This song was a huge success and became the number one in US charts. Her second single, ‘Unfaithful’, also fetched her lots of fame and became her third single, to be within the top ten. The third single, ‘We Ride’, didn’t make a mark in the US. However, it was within the top twenties in UK. The fourth single, ‘Break It Off’, featured Sean Paul and was a huge success again, making the album sell over a million copies.

Meanwhile, Clinique signed her to endorse their product and according to the terms in the deal, she sang a song ‘Just Be Happy’ to promote their fragrance. She also recorded a song ‘Winning Women’ with Pussycat doll Nicole, to promote the deodorant Secret. Playing a cameo role, she debuted in her first movie, ‘Bring It On: All or Nothing’.

In 2007, Rihanna released her third album, ’Good Girl Gone Bad’. In three of the songs, Rihanna worked with Timbaland. The album also features Ne-Yo and Jay Z. The album has yielded even hit tracks so far. The song, ‘Umbrella’ has ruled the number one slot for ten weeks consecutively. ‘Don’t Stop The Music’ and ‘Shut Up And Drive’ also became a big hit among all music lovers. Her sultry, seductive voice won her fans all over. ‘Hate that I Love you’, peaked at the seventh spot.

To promote her album, Rihanna went on a tour of Canada and the US. Akon, Chris Brown and a notable others did supporting acts.

‘Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded’ was released in 2008. ‘Take a bow’, ‘Disturbia’ and ‘‘If I Never See Your Face Again’, recorded with Maroon 5 became a global hit.

Future plans

Rihanna has joined H&M comprising of notable people like Timbaland and others, to spread awareness regarding HIV and aids. Involved in a lot of charity work, Rihanna has created her own Believe Foundation, to help children who are terminally ill. She also sings in a lot of concerts to help raise money for the deprived.

There is a lot of speculation regarding her fourth album. Some are of the opinion that she has already started working on it in her studio and is good news for all her eagerly awaiting fans.
