Glimpse into her early life

Born to Jamie Parnell Spears, a building contractor and Lynne Irene, a school teacher, in McComb, Mississippi, Britney Spears was subsequently brought up in Kentwood, Louisiana.

Till the age of nine, Britney Spears, a skilled gymnast, competed in the state level. She sang in the local church choir and took part in a number of dance revues. When she was eight, she enrolled in Professional Performing Arts School for almost three summers and appeared in quite a few off-Broadway shows like Ruthless.

In 1992, she bagged a role in Star Search, which was very popular round that time. Though she qualified the first round, she finally lost. At eleven years of age, she auditioned for Mickey Mouse Club and was broadcasted from 1993-1994, till the age of thirteen.

In the year 1997, she joined a female pop music band group, Innosense. She recorded a demo of her own solo and was immediately signed up by Jive records. Sponsored by the teen magazines in America, she went on a concert tour of the US and performed in the openings of popular bands like Backstreet boys as well as NSync.

Albums that made the difference

In October of 1998, Britney Spears released her first debut solo, ‘Baby One More Time’, which won the hearts of millions. It topped the charts at Billboard Hot 100 and remained there for two consecutive weeks. The video of this song as well as Britney’s daring pose in the Rolling magazine’s cover raised a lot of eyebrows. However, Britney spears continued to reign over in America as her debut song was declared fourteen numbers platinum.

Her second album, ‘Oops!.....I did It Again’, released in 2000. This album broke the SoundScan record, by selling the maximum number in the debut week alone. Her third album, ‘Britney’, was released in 2001. Though it didn’t do as well as her previous two albums, the album’s song, I’m a Slave 4 U, was a super hit.

In 2003, Britney Spears launched her fourth album, ‘In the Zone’, in which she co-wrote eight songs out of the thirteen songs in the album. The album received mixed reactions, though it still occupied the number one position in the debut week, making Britney Spears the first female singer in the history, to have four consecutive debut albums in the number one slot. The song, ‘Toxic’, from this album, won her the Grammy award.

Controversies never seemed to elude Britney Spears. Her break-up with Justin Timberlake was a much hyped about affair. Her marriage to Jason Allen Alexander, a childhood friend, was annulled within 55 hours of marriage. On September 18th, 2004, she married Kevin Federline.

In 2004 and 2005, she released 2 compilation albums-‘Greatest Hits: My Prerogative’ and ‘B In The Mix: The Remixes’.

In 2006, she sought a divorce from Federline and there was a lot of media attention regarding the custody of her 2 children. In the meantime, Britney’s misdemeanor fetched her lot of criticism. She entered many rehab facilities and was involved with hit and run and driving without a license, as a result of which, she lost the custody of her 2 children.

However in spite of all this, her release of ‘Blackout’, in 2007 debuted at position 2. The song, ‘Gimme More’, ruled the charts. ‘Pieces Of me’, the second single, was declared platinum. Her sixth studio album, ‘Circus’, was released on her 27th birthday. The single, ‘Womanizer’, again broke all records.

Britney Spears is the tragic story of how fame rules the famous. Her soprano vocals fetched her much accolade. However, her personal life is a complete opposite to her success story.
